happy birthday to me

I woke up today and found out that Heath Ledger passed away.

That's as sad & as shocking as Steve Irwin's death.

My heart goes out to his family, loved ones, friends and fans.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes today :)

I'm 23 on the 23rd and this year is my year of the Rat!! I love 2008!!!

Look what I got on my birthday:

Say hullo to Grobie, my very first camera (and probably my last because it's so freaking ex that I spent almost all of my birthday ang pow on it)!! I've always been reluctant to buy a digital camera because I'm too lazy to learn how to use it. But this one was so cute I couldn't resist it's charm. It's mostly touch screen and (according to Syl & Terry) it looks more like a sardine can than a camera *lol*. I have a love-hate relationship with Sony. All their products are so pretty I just want to get one in every colour. But they are so over-priced!!!

Crap, now I have to read the whole manual because it has a whole lot of functions that a noob like me is going to be so dizzy over. This thing is so cool that it has (besides a neo-print function) an auto-smile function = when someone smiles, the camera takes the picture automatically. How cool is that?! It's like this smile sensor. I'm still wondering how they managed to do that. Technology never fails to amaze me.

I love taking photographs of beautiful things. Note that I said things, not people.

Sweet and sour pork always reminds me of America. The time when my brother and I were still kids - jumping on the hotel bed and eating Chinese takeaway without a care in the world.

I miss that.

Baking with Yin

I felt bored today so I baked bread.

I've helped my mom use this recipe twice before so today I decided to do it by myself so that my family could have freshly baked bread when they came home. I'm so relieved that it was a success!

You can put any filling you like, which is the fun part. Experimentation is thy key.

so many shows to watch, so little time

I can't believe I'm saying this but...the Taiwanese entertainment scene has got the better of me. I used to be able to keep up with the number of shows they were producing, but now it seems as though they are churning them out by the bucketload. It's all about quantity now isn't it? I've lost track of the number of shows that Shao Wei has starred in. He acts faster than I can watch. Now that's just scary. Or am I getting old and out of it?

Lately because I've had a little time on my hands, I've decided to do some catching up. Yeayea, I still haven't given up on Taiwanese dramas. I don't know why, but they still appeal to me the most. I've tried Japanese and Korean but in the end I still love the Taiwanese wayyy more than any one else in the world. After a little snooping around on Youtube (I love Youtube), I've started to follow 2 more shows, in conjunction with 斗牛要不要.

First up: 原来我不帅

Photobucket

Main actors & actresses: JJ Lin Jun Jie, Nicky Li Jiu Zhe & 1 more guy and 3 girls that I've never seen before

Storyline & Appeal: I like JJ and Nicky, even more so the combo of the two, that's why I gave this drama a chance. It's about 3 not very good looking guys who end up with 3 pretty girls - probably trying to show that even guys who aren't that good looking can still charm pretty girls without using their looks. It's a really crappily funny show. Everything is exaggerated e.g. facial expressions and it's just a show you can sit back, relax and laugh away without thinking too much. I caught myself laughing out loud a couple of times whilst watching the 1st episode (yes, they have only just broadcasted their 1st episode last week!!) because the funny scenes are so unexpected. JJ and Nicky are really humourous and are surprisingly good actors. I knew already from Hana Kimi that JJ was a good actor who had potential. Someone finally realised his talent and promoted him from guest star to lead actor. He's very good and naturally funny too!!

Episodes: Only 2 so far. Come on! I'm dying to watch the 3rd one!!

Second show: 恶女阿楚

Photobucket

Main actors & actresses: Joanne Zheng Zi Qiao, Sam Wang Shao Wei, Chen Yi, Genie Zhuo Wen Xuan

Photobucket

Photobucket
Chen Yi

Storyline & appeal: I'm watching this because of Shao Wei and Chen Yi. They are really, really cute in the show. Chen Yi is so good looking that I can't stop watching. Shao Wei has taken a 180 degree turn in his acting - he used to act in the typical support role as Mr. Cool guy (whom every girl thinks is hot) who loves the lead actress but in the end loses out to the lead actor because the lead actress loves the lead actor. And as he quietly steps out of the picture, he manages to score the support actress instead. In this show, he acts as a really kind-hearted, slightly toot (傻瓜) kindda guy. He thinks that the world is perfect with perfect people in it and is ALWAYS nice to everyone. He always sees the good side of people and abhorrs violence. He's so nice that even the meanest person is obliged to be nice to him because they just can't believe such a nice person still exists in this world.

I think the main point of this story is to show the audience that even though some people have all the money in the world, they are not happy. Conversely, others are poor yet happy and loved because of family and good friends. As long as you have support from your loved ones, there's nothing that's impossible to bear.

One thing I really didn't like about this show is that they played the female characters out to be so awful and the males so sweet and caring. The females are loud, bossy, rude and tempermental - sometimes I just want to tell them to shut up through the computer screen. Because of Shao Wei's Mr. Nice guy nature clashing with Qiao Qiao's 野蛮 personality, we have a good show on our hands!! Excellent acting skills from the cast. Personally I think the story plot can be improved but other than that it's another typical average drama.

Episodes: 24

Inexplicable

Someone that I grew up with, had his world collapse on him. And even though many willing hands were extended to pull him out of the hole that he had buried himself in, he chose to dig even deeper until he was unreachable.

Someone who took care of me since I was young, fell really sick.

A friend disappointed me.

Someone whom I love is unhappy and I desperately want her to be happy again but I'm not the one who can make it happen.

I miss people.

I hate it when people take me for granted.

I hate it when people force me to do things even after I've said NO.

I need to change my perspective of life but I can't. Not yet.

I will never be ready for change.

If things are so great the way they are, why do we need to change them?

My heart is not where my body is.

I think people are getting nastier and nastier as time goes by.

Friends whom I haven't seen for 2 years met up with me last night. It's as if nothing's changed.
We did shots of cheesecake:

Gifts

Gifts from my friends who know me so well:

Photobucket

Notebook from Syl - I love 糖糖屋!! It's this cute cartoon - I'm not sure where it originated from but I first saw it in Taiwan :)

Photobucket

One Spanish phrase a day calendar from Amy - Today I learnt how to say something that I hope I will never have to use: mis padres estan divorciados = My parents are divorced

Photobucket

Lovely perfume set from Yoke Mei & Cassie & a very pretty dangly key chain from Juice, amongst other things that she bought me

我好幸福哦!! Thank you guys :)

ps: I know the pictures are really crummy, because my phone cam is lousy and the lighting is bad. My mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday. Now I'm sure *winks*.

Before I leave, I might as well bombard you with as much 星光帮 as I can:

总在我身旁 MV

因為我相信 MV

And because I still love Josh, here's a vid of him singing The Star Spangled Banner at the Packers game. Best rendition of this song ever. I was blown away when I heard this and it brought tears to my eyes...and I'm not American!! The writer of the song must have written it with Josh's voice in mind.

鬥牛要不要

Heya how's everybody doing in 2008 so far?

I've been using my holidays wisely to watch lots of TV, sleep, eat, read and do all the things I probably won't be able to do once I start working. My parents are visibly disgusted with me because I am not doing anything productive with my time at the moment but this is the last break I am going to get so I am going to enjoy it when it is still available. It's not that I don't want to work, it's that I am picky hurhur.

Anyways I'm now watching...
.
.
.
.
.
The hottest Taiwanese drama at the moment, 鬥牛要不要!!

Photobucket

It stars Hebe from S.H.E, Mike He and Li Wei. It's supposed to be a story revolving around basketball but like all other the drama series', it's predominantly about 2 guys chasing after 1 girl - and of course the more handsome one gets her even though the other one has been by her side since young and would give up everything for her. Hmm these stories are getting more and more cliche.

Hebe acts as a spoilt, rich girl who screams when she doesn't get the things she wants. Li Wei is her bodyguard, someone who was taken in by Hebe's dad as an orphan when he was young and has been protecting Hebe since young. He would do anything for her and loves her very much but Hebe only treats him like her older brother. She meets Mike He at a basketball match and they hate each other's guts at first but then fall in love later. The plot is frought with difficulties: Mike's dad is a business man and forces his son to take over the plot of land that Hebe owns or else his business will go bust. Mike is caught between trying not to hurt Hebe and trying not to hurt his dad. Viewers are then told that the reason why his ex-girlfriend left him was because he put his dad's business needs above everything else, even her. Now we are told that Mike's dad's business partner is trying to set her daughter and Mike up for marriage. In order not to hurt his father, he complies to seeing the woman but this woman already has a boyfriend (I think) and hates her mom. And the plot thickens.

Anyways, I watched it because I like Mike He and the soundtrack is good. You would be surprised but soundtracks do make a difference to a show. I'm not really keen on Hebe (because I heard that she's not a very nice person) but her acting is quite credible in this show.

Photobucket

Taiwan is up to episode 7 at the moment but I believe episode 8 is coming out soon. I'm quite excited because episode 8 has scenes with 周定緯 in it!!

Photobucket

rain

He was asked to make an appearance as someone's motorbiker boyfriend.

Photobucket

I'm excited to see how he will fare in his first role - I have high expectations because I expect he will be good. Don't disappoint me!!

The soundtrack is not bad -

Photobucket

Tank's opener, 鬥牛要不要, is upbeat and packs a punch.
S.H.E's closer, 最近还好吗, is the one I was hooked onto for awhile. It's quite sad.
困兽 by 周定纬 is one track that I really like as well - it's got a rap part included
I didn't think much of 林宥嘉's 背影 at first, but after watching the show I quite like it now.

Back to the show ~toodles!

超級星光大道

My sister introduced me to this new Taiwanese show called 超級星光大道 - It's sort of like a Taiwanese version of Idol and is uber popular in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore at the moment. They are currently showing season 2, but season 1 was the one which was crazy popular.

The contestants from season 1 are a bunch of talented, young, funny and nice individuals who, I personally believe, will go on to become future stars. It's tough to be a Taiwanese artiste at present. You are expected to be well-rounded and juggle singing, dancing, acting, hosting etc. at the same time. It's really not easy. And you are expected to sing live all the time, even when you are dancing at the same time. And after all that, every move you make is scrutinized by the paparazzi *shakes head*.

Anywho, one of my personal favourites is 周定緯 a.k.a 周定Rain because apparently he dances like Rain. He has awesome stage prescence and can dance really well.

I like his voice - he can sing fast and slow songs and even rap. To me, he's the most all-rounded contestant. I've seen him host a few episodes of an entertainment show recently and I think he does it really well too. Recently he's come up with a new song of his own titled 我不會唱歌:

I think he bears a remote resemblance to JJ Lin Jun Jie & Milk (niu nai) from Energy but he's better looking *lol*.

My other personal favourite is 盧學叡 - he's got a nice R&B groove to his voice and he's really humourous as well. He's the first contestant to come up with his own album so far.

That's what I've been doing for entertainment so far.

Happy new year!!

I don't like new years. I mean the beginning of the year. Because that means that I've got to go through the whole damn year again. And I'm so tired.

2008:

School has started for my sis. I will miss her company on weekdays (because we share a room) but I'm also grateful to have some private space for awhile. I hope she likes her new school and makes many new friends. She's got 2 famous people in her Orientation Group - 1 ex-contestant on a Chinese Singing Competition which was broadcast on National TV, and one half of the twins who took part in the gymnastics SEA games for Singapore. It will be interesting. I hope her proposal to have handbells as a CCA in JC is successful. Many people haven't heard the wonders of handbells. It is a beautiful instrument that has not been given the recognition that it should in Singapore.

We're going to attend a musical that my brother is taking part in (part of his university activities). I think this is the first time I'm going to hear him sing and dance in public *LOL*. Oh gawd I have to get pictures. I hope it will be good because a lot of hard work, time, sweat and tears has gone into that production.

I desperately need a job but I'm too picky. Which means I can't be THAT desperate yet.

It's January again. Oh dear me.
