Lions, you rock!

It was the clash of the titans tonight.

I can't believe Singapore won. By such a controversial penalty. Singapore has always been very lucky when it matters. This time they not only won Malaysia by the skin of their teeth, they also won Thailand 2-1 by a penalty.

When the Malaysian referee decided to award the penalty to Singapore, all the Thai players left the pitch fuming and refused to go back onto the pitch and play for a whole 10 mins or so whilst they disputed the issue with the referee, who, thank God, stuck with his decision. I mean...what kind of sportsmanship is this? I bet this only happens in Asia. It's so freaking embarrassing. The referee's decision is final and the players should know that. It was such a bloody waste of time when they could have just accepted it, played on and tried to win back the goal with the short time they had left. In the end after all that drama, the result was the same. I'm just surprised that the referee didn't award the players who were arguing with him red cards. If I were him I would be furious. He was quite patient.

And therefore Singapore again, scrapes through by the skin of their teeth. They may not be smiling anymore during the final match in Thailand though. If Thailand are smart, they would come back stronger, better and fiercer. However judging from their lack of sportsmanship tonight, maybe Singapore has a chance after all.

Do us proud for the 3rd time Lions!! :) We want to see Aide Iskandar lift the 2007 cup!

outing with Syl

Today when I went out with Syl I thought it was purely for the purpose of having lunch. We ended up leaving KAP for Orchard, Bugis and then the Esplanade.

It's scary sometimes how similar Syl and I are. Maybe it's to do with the fact that we're the same Chinese horoscope as well as English horoscope. We ordered the exact same thing (without planning) from MacDonalds down to the drink and the type of sauce.

We walked around for 8 hours before she drove me home. Contrary to my past beliefs, she is quite a steady driver, though I could feel her nervousness. But still, she managed to return home safely on her own. Good work!

When we were at Orchard I bought a soccerball pendant from Perlinis...it's very cute and it was 30% off so I thought why not hahaha...

Then we went to Bugis (I love that place) and I found my cherry earrings!! They are super cute lah! I have been looking for a pair all over loh! And Syl bought her school bag muahahha!! (to my disgust cuz she has like a million bags that she doesn't use lah)

We went to Fish and Co. for dinner and me, being the swaku person that I am, ordered a mug of Big Freeze that turned out to be THIS HUGE that I didn't know about.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It was freaking scary lah. It's the largest drink EVER. No wonder it costs like $7. Needless to say we couldn't finish even half of it lah. Moreover I felt so cheated because it was just ice blended with the canned rambutans stuffed with pineapple. Damnit.

We also ordered the seafood platter for 2...which was a HUGE mistake. We should have ordered the seafood platter for ONE.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It was HUGE lah. But we finished most of it...Damn funny because after we ordered it, the 3 tables next to us also ordered the same thing cuz they saw us eating it muahhahahah!!!

I have to say that the prawns were not very fresh and neither were the mussels...they had a fishy smell...but the fish was absolutely divine, and the fries were nice...and the rice was so-so...and the calamari was nice too. Full like crazy.

Therefore we decided to talk a LONG walk to the Esplanade and around it...went to see Mr. Merlion...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is actually the first time I've seen it upclose and personal (I think).

Very tired but still waking up later to watch the Liverpool vs. Westham match. Have to update my brudder on the score first hand!

Till next time! :)

ps: Want to thank my friends not only for their well wishes on my birthday but also for their support lately! I'm really very touched :)

Taiwan trip

Sorry guys for the delay in posting up pics from my Taiwan trip...I had better things to do like slacking *sniggers*...but here they are. Just gonna upload a few for your viewing pleasure (there are seriously too many).

My sister enjoying her "zha ji pai" (fried chicken cutlet) from the famous Shi Lin market - it was super yummy cuz it had cheese oozing out of it.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Shi Lin night market has a wide variety of local delights like their fried chicken cutlet, oyster omelette, bubble tea, small sausage wrapped in big sausage (which is actually glutinous rice shaped like a sausage, stuffed with a small "lup cheong", which my mother and siblings enjoyed very much) etc. However, I thought that it was not only crowded and dirty, it was super smelly too considering the fact that people were selling smelly tofu everywhere *screws up nose*!! When you enter the market it's like going into this hot, smelly, no ventilation place....phewweee!!! All I wanted to do was get out asap. It didn't help that the stall vendors were competing for customers. We kept getting yelled at to sit down at so-and-so stall and to buy their food. However, when we stopped at the fried chicken cutlet stall, the owner was super friendly. He asked us where we were from and when we said Singapore, he said, "oh, nowadays many Singaporeans are coming to Taiwan. How come ah?" Honestly I didn't know how to answer that question. Cuz it's cheap? Cuz we want to visit the tallest building in the world (Taipei 101)? Cuz it's near? Cuz we love 5566? I have no idea *lol*.

Anyway, we went to this place that had all the 12 zodiacs carved from stone. Here's me and my mousy! It's holding an ingot! Naturally, we mice/rats (if you prefer) are money-faced.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Here's my brother and his ferocious fire-breathing dragon. I have no idea what it's holding.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Come to think of it...his dragon looks smaller than my mousy...

Anyway, tell me if this looks like an opening to heaven to you

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Isn't it gorgeous?

This is gigantic mochi (honestly this is the biggest mochi I have seen - it's nearly as big as my fist) filled with chocolate and stuffed with half a strawberry in each. I thought the skin of the mochi was too thick (I hate mochi) but I liked the chocolate and strawberry haha.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now this signboard is funny...if you get it. Who doesn't get it raise your hands!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Another gorgeously scenic picture...Taiwan really has nice scenery.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ok...I look super weird in this pic cuz I have to admit I was super embarrassed taking a picture with a SIGNBOARD. What to do...the real actors weren't there. By the way, this is my favourite Taiwanese drama series, "ge dou tian wang". We went to this huge garden/floral place where they were famous for their flowers. There were signboards like these all over to show how many drama serials were shot there. I'm actually standing on the piece of land where 5566 has stepped on before!!! *squeals*

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is such a cool rock formation don't you think? Geography teachers should be here. This reminds me of Marianne Chong and physical geog. YUX. However, studying rock formations is one thing and just enjoying the scenery is another.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is pic of the 3 of us on the tour bus. We went a bit mad from sitting on the bus for too long.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Finally, this is a pic of my mom digging out money from her purse to pay for the huge bag of barbequed cuttlefish she just ordered (it was yummy btw). I hate reading Mandarin, and it gets worse when it's in traditional Mandarin!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Btw, we saw Gong Li (yes, THE LEGENDARY Gong Li) shopping in PRADA at Taipei 101. How cool is that? She looks exactly like what I see on tv. I couldn't get a pic cuz there were bodyguards in there...but no one else saw her...until my dad said, "hey! I saw Gong Li!" *lol* Anyways I don't think she would like people disturbing her whilst she was shopping.

That's all for now folks!!

HEAR THE LIONS ROARRRR

WHOOOHOOOOO!!! SINGAPORE ARE THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE ASEAN CUP!!! WE BEAT MALAYSIA!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

My cousins and I were anxiously watching the match...first Malaysia 1....then Singapore scored 1...then it went into half an hour overtime...then they went into penalties...and then at the veryyy last moment...LIONEL LEWIS saved the last Malaysian penalty!!! YAYYYYY!!!!! You should have heard the cheers and the roars then we emitted (much to the disgust and shock of our neighbours I expect...then again I bet EVERYONE was watching and cheering as well!!!). It was all tooo nerve-wrecking.

But the important thing is that we won!! I mean, we could have done better of course...we missed out skipper, Aide Iskandar, who was out on a red card. We missed Itimi Dickson as well, I duno why he wasn't playing but I think he's awesome.

But the most important thing is that we wonn!!! And I even predicted the score 1-1 and that Singapore will win a penalty by 1!!! HAHA!!! Crap thing is that I didn't bet on it! ARGH!!!

WE WON!!!

devil by my side

I hereby admit that I am now hooked onto "Devil by my side". Before Peg or Amy starts groaning, I have to say that I didn't like it at first, and this is all channel 56's fault for repeating the series yet again.

"Devil by my side" is, no prizes for guessing, a Taiwanese drama series. It was shown some time last year...starring Rainie Yang Chen Ling and Mike He Jun Xiang. When I first saw it I thought it was uber bo liao and draggy. I still feel this way about it but got hooked on it whilst flipping channels one day cuz some scenes are super sweet. You've gotta watch it to understand what I mean. I think the relationship between Mike and Rainie is uber cute. Mike is UBER CUTE!!! *sigh*

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Just that I want to box his make-up artist and hairstylist because he is actually super cute but they made him look creepy lah. I guess that's why he's the devil :S.

There's a new show by Wang Shao Wei and Chen Xiao En called "Rock, Scissors, Paper" that I gotta start watching soon. Hooohooo!! I love the hols!! :)

Potty mania

In light of recent events (such as the looming date for the release of the 5th Harry Potter movie - it's about time!!!), I decided to celebrate and relive my wizarding fantasies yet again this year (I do this once a year).

I had a movie marathon, from the 1st movie till the 4th one, and I read the entire 6th book again.

I love Harry Potty world. It's a place I can escape to once in awhile to just get away from reality.

The 5th movie is set to be out this year July 13th (if my sources are correct).

I wish the last piece of the puzzle (the 7th book) will be out soon.

Yet I don't really want it to be out since then the fantasy will come to a close.

The 6th book leaves me hanging in fear of what events are about to take place in the final book.

Will Harry die? (actually I don't really care since my favourite character is already dead *assuming he is REALLY dead - I refuse to believe it*) Yet it will be a pity if he does die because his whole life in Hogwarts will be wasted battling YOU-KNOW-WHO. Will Ron and Hermione FINALLY get together? It would be weird. (correct me if I'm wrong) You can't get together with your best friend! That's like getting together with your brother! ew!

After watching the movies again, here are some of my favourite lines from my favourite character, 'ol Dumbydore:

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live"

"It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, it is our choices"

"The truth is a beautiful & terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution"

I got major pissed when the original actor for Dumbydore died (Richard Harris) cuz he's so much more Dumbydore than the current one!!

I watched a few cast interviews on Youtube as well. The entire cast of Harry Potter is so so funny. Daniel Radcliffe himself is hilarious. The kids look absolutely adorable in the 1st movie. Especially RON!!!

Toodles till later!!

now I know

Now I know that just cuz someone gets straight A's or does really well in their studies doesn't mean that they are smart...

It just means that they are hardworking...

And they have a lot of time to spare.

Cuz some people, despite their 1st class honours and years of experience, can't even understand basic fundamentals that even I, a lowly undergrad, can grasp.

Will you choose the man who is good-looking and smart but has a crappy character, or the man who is ugly but smart, witty and humourous?

update

I'm going to be in court all week next week, how awesome is that?

There's just something about arriving at court dressed in black and white looking all important. I get a cheap thrill of a rush ok?! Leave me alone *sulks*.

Colleagues have been super ooper unbelievably nice & warm. I can talk and joke with senior lawyers as if I'm their old friend, how cool is that? People walk around barefoot and play chess during their lunch break. Awesome.

A few of my colleagues told me to stay in Aus to work though. They said I'll have a better life overseas. I wonder how they can tell when they themselves have been stuck in Singapore their whole lives. The grass is always greener on the other side, remember? But I'll def. take their comments into consideration after I graduate.

My brother got enlisted into the army yesterday. We got invited to Pulau Tekong on tour to see their living headquarters and ate their food. It's not bad actually. Their sleeping quarters are big, got a nice looking swimming pool, recreation room with tvs, pool table, chess, board games, carum and table tennis...they get 2 pairs of sports shoes along with all their uniforms, boots...everything custom made. And...they get to come back after 2 weeks. So it's just like an extra long OBS camp or something haha. My mom commented that our family is getting smaller. When I'm back in Aus and my brother is in army, my sis will be the only child (currently she's loving it cuz she already took over my brother's table).

We're revamping our room soon! Gonna repaint it and we got a carpenter to come in and make us new tables. I'm gonna be sad to part with my current one (cuz I think it looks uber cool) but then my sis needs more space to do work. The number of books she has is unbelievable.

Till next time, keep it real! :)

stoner

I redefined "stoning" today. I managed to sit still for 4 hours straight and pretended to look busy when I actually wasn't doing anything.

My current firm is quite friendly and open. But it's boring at the moment.

First day in and nothing to do until Thursday. Because I go to court on Thursday to observe a trial. They might as well let me stay at home till Thursday. At least I have internet access at home. Pooey.

I wonder how long more I can tahan this stoning.

I met up with Yuanny today after nearly a whole year. It just so happens that she's doing her internship in the building next door, so she's now my lunch buddy! After seeing her I looked back and remembered the very same us 10 years ago talking to each other. It's scary how time flies. The feeling is not even describable. Just imagine 2 kids talking to each other and then next imagine the exact same 2 kids still talking to each other, but now grown up and wearing working attire. It's just amazing.

But I don't wanna grow up!!! I don't wanna work!!!

Hermit Yin

I find myself at a loss for words nowadays. It seems almost as if my brain is blank. I always knew what to say. Now it feels as if my brain went on a permanent vacation.

I can’t even be bothered to pick up the phone and call people now when I used to be the one calling all the time. Then again, no one calls me either.

2006 is the first year I didn’t send anyone Christmas cards…because I received none when I sent them in previous years.

I’m not keen on going out with friends anymore…because I’m too freaking lazy. I enjoy the comfort of my home too much now. Besides, I find that there is more to do at home than outside, no need to spend $ somemore.

As mentioned above, when I meet people I don’t know how to make small talk anymore. Most of the time I will just sit and listen and let others do the talking. This is SOOO NOT me because I usually enjoy talking.

I hardly sign in to msn anymore…because whenever I do, either no one talks to me, or no one has anything to talk about.

I can’t even sit at the tv and watch it for more than 20 mins because I will get bored. I used to love watching wan quan yu le and shao nian te gong dui and anything and everything that had 5566 on it…now I don’t even want to watch wan quan yu le anymore…because it’s the same boring thing everyday.

Things I used to be interested in like shopping, karaoke, yakking on the phone, chatting on msn, watching tv, sewing etc. are all boring to me now.

I haven’t spoken to ANY of my friends since I came back from Taiwan…and I haven't heard from anyone either. I suppose it’s all good. I don’t bother them and they don’t bother me. We live in our own worlds now. Moreover with the mood I’m in at the moment, I don’t think ANYONE should talk to me.

In my spare time (which I have a lot of now), I read and surf the internet. Youtube rocks.

Life is now officially boring. Something is wrong with me.

Over here I would like to extend my sincere apologies to my friends for not contacting them in ages. On the other hand, I would also like to ask why no one has contacted me in ages?

I am now Hermit Yin. And I may prefer it this way.
