Amy and I went to see JJ on Saturday. I told everyone that it's so ironic - all this time I've been in Singapore I've never once been bothered to see him but when he comes to Australia I'm like well, he's a fellow Singaporean and it's his first visit to Melbourne, I might as well support him. Moreover he's one of the few talents that are homegrown. It was 2 hours of pure entertainment at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre (which is new and very beautiful and comfortable by the way). We were greeted with goodybags on our seats (with JJ's face on them) filled with weird pamphlets (I think the only thing valuable in there was my bright blue light stick) - I love light sticks!!!JJ has the voice of an angel - it is so unique that I say it is unfair that God should give him such a gift. The way he sings is almost effortless. I say his dancing has improved by leaps and bounds too, thanks to Mr. Lan Bo lao shi, who was there as his backup dancer - if you don't know him, he's the choreographer to all the stars e.g. 5566, K One, Jolin Tsai, Cyndi Wang etc.JJ also did 2 impersonations: Jacky Cheung and Michael Jackson (and even did the moonwalk) - it was uncanny! How can one person have so many talents? Unfair I say, unfair!!The most amazing part of the concert was when he was doing his last song and a few people rushed to the stage to shake his hand...and he did...then more and more people came...and suddenly there was a whole influx of people crowding at the stage to touch JJ's hand...and then before you knew it, 2 girls actually managed to run on-stage to try and hug JJ...which scared the crap out of the stage crew who had to come out and try and get the fans off stage. There were some people who even tried pulling JJ into the crowd off stage and that was so dangerous. The stage crew had to tell JJ to stop reaching for the crowd.
Anyway the night came to an end after his encore. I was left longing for more (and so was Amy by the looks of it). JJ isn't my favourite Mando-pop artiste in the whole wide world, but I have to admit that he's the only Mando pop singer whom I have every single album of since his first one. It just happened like that. I think I liked all his albums until Sixology came along and then I thought that it kind of became boring, but his old songs are still amazing. My personal favourite is still 'chi bang'. Followed by 'cao cao' and 'sha shou'.
Well done JJ, you've done Singapore proud (although he never did refer to Singapore once during the concert!!).Now all I have to do is to wait for my Wang Lee Hom and I will die a happy person :)
