happy new year!

Happy new year everyone! Can't believe it's 2007 ALREADY!!! Seems like just awhile ago we were celebrating the coming of a new millenium. Although I have no idea WHY people like celebrating new year (I mean come on, it's a whole new year-long of school/work/stress/headaches), hopefully 2007 will be a good one. It should be...UNLESS you are born in the year of the PIG or the SNAKE. If so, you have to be ultra careful because in 2007, these 2 animals offend the "TAI SUI" (no idea who he is but he seems like a big shot), therefore you may be unlucky (quote from Taiwanese FENGSHUI masters).

These Fengshui masters are damn good. I told you I believe in Fengshui. I went to Taiwan and got my fortune told for free by this Fengshui master. The guy was pretty accurate. He said that because my name is lucky, I have a life filled with luck. He said, "you are always very lucky right?" Then I said, "Ya, my cloud always has a silver lining and things always seem to work themselves out." Then he said, "but I can tell that you don't like to study right? You always like to play only." I was thinking, "fei hua, who likes to study right?!" Anyway he said that I should study harder because although I'm a lucky person, if I study harder I will reach my full potential. Actually isn't that the same for everyone?! But anyway the MAIN POINT came when he said that I will be successful and rich in the future *sniggers* because I dare to try new things or something like that *LOL*. Anyway he may have just been saying that so that I will be happy happy and then go and buy his Fengshui charms *hurhur*.

ALL THE BEST FOR THE NEW YEAR!!!

back frm Taiwan

I'm back! I can't believe 7 days slipped by so quickly! I wish the trip was longer because I don't want 2007 to come!!! *cries* Boooo...I hate New year!!

I have to say that Taiwan was not bad, but more boring than I expected. Definitely can't say it was as good as Japan...it was reminiscent of China obviously...but it didn't have anything special there that I can say is uniquely Taiwan...besides the food. We were eating most of the time...and looking at scenery...that's about it.

Here's my sister pigging out on a corn dog

Here's my milky steamboat lunch

Here's a picture I find amusing...You know in Singapore our roads say "slow" right? I found it highly amusing that all the signs in Taiwan were in Chinese and that there were Chinese words on the roads...I know that's supposed to be normal for them but I still think it's cool

Here's a video I took of the sea...it's not very clear and not very long cuz I used my HP to videocam it

Very tired but reasonably enjoyable. At least the tour group and guide were nice.

More pics soon!!

going to Taiwan tmr

I'm going to Taiwan tmr!! *squeals* I'll be back on the 26th Dec but I have auto-roam so you all can still msg me!! (hope it works)

Before that, this is a pic of this yummilicious chocolate lava cake me, my mom and my sis tried at TCC (The Coffee Connection) at Cineleisure a few days ago..

It tastes like a freshly baked brownie...and when you cut it open, the chocolate oozes out...eat with vanilla ice-cream, perfect!!! They bake it on-the-spot so it's fresh and warm too.

Peg brought Juice and I to Paragon yesterday to try this restaurant's deserts ("Soba So Good"...geddit???). If I remember correctly, they have a dessert set from 2.30pm to 5pm which is a dessert and a cup of tea or coffee (refillable) for $5. Their desserts are normally around $7 each so I guess that's a pretty good deal. Japanese desserts are sooooOOo pretty. This is what I had:

It's called "Cream Anmitsu" and it's actually jelly, red bean, mochi, soba and an assortment of fruits accompanied by a small bowl of brown sweet sauce to drizzle on top. Yummy!!

Juice had this:

I think it's green tea jelly with fruits.

Next post will be about Taiwan!!! CIAOOOOOOOooooOOOO!!!

it's raining it's pouring

It's been raining cats and dogs everyday of late. It's particularly scary today cuz it's so major heavy and it came pretty suddenly...and here I am in the room next to the window and this bolt of lightning cracks right next to me...that's freaky. I can literally hear the "crack" sound when the lightning flashes. And as you can imagine the thunder is terribly loud too. I feel as if the storm is happening right next to me. Luckily my heart is pretty strong.

I am sOoo looking forward to going to Taiwan next week. It's going to be heaps of fun! I need a break from Singapore already! :)

Nothing much has been going on lately...Been doing some odd jobs for my aunt and lazing around surfing Youtube all day. My most recent job for my aunt was to go to a certain chinese medical centre and ask people to help us fill in some surveys. I was supposed to just give it to the patients and ask them to fill it in but I found that rude so I decided to ask them questions in a conversational way and write down their answers as they speak. You can't imagine the amount of rejection that I got at first. Out of 10, maybe 5 people were willing to do the survey and only 1 out of the 5 was happy to do it. Some people see you approaching and even before you ask them anything, they shake their head. But with the bad comes the good. Some people were super nice (they were mostly older folks). Sometimes we got carried away chatting about chinese medicine and they started telling me about their past and their children. I enjoy talking to old folks because they have been through so much and they have so many interesting tales to tell and words of wisdom to pass on. It's a pity that many youngsters nowadays find them a nag.

Got accepted for relief teaching in Jan (not looking fwd to that but the pay is good) and awaiting internship next year as well (not looking fwd to that either). Why can't I just stay at home and vegetate?

Went to the club to bowl and play pool with my pa and brother yesterday. I suck at bowling (maybe cuz I've only done it twice)!! The freaking ball just won't move in a straight line. Oh yah bowling is so much cheaper here than in Aus...but Aus has glow in the dark bowling...how cool is that...it's prob better too cuz pple can't see ur face and u wun malu urself...I suck at pool too but not as bad as bowling *sniggers*. Looking fwd to badminton this sat with cousins. I haven't had a good game of baddy in ages. Not since Michy left Melbourne *sobsob*. My racquet is rusty.

Look!!! This is the Chilli crab (it's really called Chilli crab...there's even a recipe on the tag) that I got from my aunt's conference (sponsored by the Singapore Tourism Board). Each visitor got one in their goodie bag. It's so cuttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! :P

I've been having heaps of fun transferring files from my lappie to my phone and vice-versa using infrared. I feel like a swa ku!! :P

Ok just wanted to update that's all, wun bore u all any longer. Merry X'mas!!!

updates

I've been helping my aunt out with some stuff for the South East Asian Geography Association (I hope that's what it stands for) conference she headed at Nanyang Girls' High this week. There were professors and other academics from all over the world here to attend it. Imagine: more than 300 academics from all over the world gathering to speak and learn more about geography. I met people from the UK, US, Frace, Australia, Nigeria, Malaysia, India, Iran, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan etc. PHEW! The Australians and the Americans were the most laid-back I reckon. They were the only people who asked me if there was beer served at the conference. 1 American came for the conference in a casual shirt and shorts. Some people came in slippers. I couldn't control my excitement when I saw the Australians so I HAD to ask this Aussie guy which part of Aus he was from (Sydney...too bad) but he was super nice. It was a fun experience besides the OCCASSIONAL boredom we (Sylvia and I) had to go through.

Over here I would like to firstly thank Syl for helping me out (if not I would be soOo super bored by myself). Then I would like to thank my aunt for giving me this opportunity. Then I would like to thank all the professors and staff at NIE for being so super nice to Syl and I. The professors at NIE are really not what I expected them to be - at first glance you wouldn't think that they were professors. One 50 year old professor was sitting on a tabletop swinging her legs whilst I was being introduced to her and another professor (I love u A/P Chang!! :P) treated us like old buddies so we didn't feel nervous at all going to them for help or even speaking to them even though they were professors. So there are still SOME nice people left in Singapore after all.

Went to the Singapore expo yesterday - I went to look at lappies and my bro wants a new camera. What's up with guys and cameras? Is this sudden interest in photography a phase that they go through??? Anyway the expo was CRAZY crowded yesterday and it only was a THURSDAY. I hate school hols. *argh* We could hardly move in there.

Last night I went to ACS(I) to attend a concert that their symphonic band had put up, in support of my aunt's youngest son = my cousin, who's in the band. It was pretty good actually. I didn't like the flamboyant conductor or the crappy MC's or the poor lighting or the ACJC band. BUT the ACS(I) symphonic band was good. That's about it. For that I sat through 3 hours of horn blowing. There were like 150 of them on-stage for the final few performances (combined AC bands) - I think all that energy going into the blowing can be harnessed and used for lighting my house for a few days. I just realised that ACS(I) is huge and very nice. Much nicer than MGS man. I was SHORTCHANGED. Girls always get the lesser deal. Sexist.

Been enjoying myself but it's all very tiring. Time to go back to brainless Xbox WWE games. Till next time!
